Avenelle Roquet

Avenelle Roquet, 74, of Ada, Minn., died Monday, February 13, 2006, at her residence under the care of hospice. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, with Pastor Nancy Jewell officiating. Burial was in Ada Municipal Cemetery.

Avenelle Ramona Landro was born July 16, 1931, at Hendrum, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Ethelbert (Danelle) Landro. She was baptized in Ada, where she attended Ada Public School before graduating from Crookston, Minn., in 1950.

Avenelle was united in marriage to Emil Hitner in 1950. They lived in various cities in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota while Emil worked construction. She lived in Waukon for several years before she moved to Ada. She had worked in housekeeping for families.

On December 5, 1969, Avenelle was united in marriage to Eugene Roquet in Waukon. They moved to Moorhead, Minn., in 1970, where she worked for the Holiday Inn. In 1972, they moved to Ada and have lived there since. Avenelle worked as a cook at the Ada High School for five years and worked for the Ada Municipal Hospital in housekeeping for over 20 years before retiring in 1997.

Avenelle enjoyed visiting over coffee and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed attending area auction sales and collecting her cups and saucers.

Survivors are her husband, Eugene of Ada; a son, Eugene Hitner of Marshalltown, Iowa; three daughters, Rita (Dale) Smith of Fargo, N.D., Pam (Mike) Roquet of Ada, and Nanci (Timothy) Schmidt of Moorhead, Minn.; a brother, Albert Landro Jr. of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Truman Fairbanks and Bernard Landro; and two sisters, June Leiran and Mae Johnson.

Pallbearers were Gary Leiran, Jeff Leiran, Tom Leiran, Larre Leiran, Rick Leiran, and Jon Leiran.
