Alvin Hausted
Alvin Otto Hausted (Haugsted) passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006. He was born April 20, 1915, near Waukon, Iowa, to John Haugsted and Mabel Johnson Haugsted. His early years were spent farming in the Cresco and New Hampton area. In 1951 he came to Waukon, purchasing the Hudson car dealership, then continued on to sell American Motors, GMC, Oliver, and New Holland farm equipment. He enjoyed associating with people and operated the business for 26 years.
He married Ruby Carlson in 1952. In 1984, Al and Ruby moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he engaged in sales work again until retirement.
Gardening and fulfilling his dream of having producing fruit trees brought him great enjoyment. His love of family has shown through the years. A caring, kind personality made it evident that each one was special in their own way to him. He accepted the Lord into his life at an early age and at the time of his death was a member of the Northside Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Lincoln.
Survivors include his wife Ruby, and their sons Alan (Chris) of Lincoln, Neb., and Randy (Birgit) of Angwin, Calif. Grandchildren are Lindsay (Jeff) Akins of Purdon, Texas, and Tara, Mandy, Nicholas, Andy, Jonathan, and Josef. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Florence Haugsted of Halfway, Oregon. Several nieces and nephews, who were always an important part of his life, will greatly miss him as well as cousins, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Arthur, Andrew, Arvid, Arlo, Leo, Violet, Alice, and Janette.
A memorial service for immediate family was held Thursday evening, February 23, with Pastor Allen Myers officiating. Cremation was by Heartland Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family for future designation.
