Sara K. Smerud, 92, of Tomah, Wis., and formerly of New Albin, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Morrow Home in Sparta, Wis. She was born March 9, 1914, to Oscar and Clara (Wild) Smerud in New Albin.
Sara spent her working years as a social worker in the public school system. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin. She was a natural outdoorsperson, a naturalist, and a rock hound.
She is survived by her son, Bill Brown; three brothers, John (Rita) Smerud of New Albin, Al (Lorna) Smerud of La Crosse, Wis., and Donald Smerud of Waukon; two sisters, Evangeline McKenna of Coulter, Iowa, and Margaretta (Walter) Keenan of Waukon; her special friend, Jeanette Bowker of Tomah; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, at 11 a.m. in New Albin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bootstrap Fund for continuing education in nursing at Morrow Memorial Home. Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
