Cornelius “Connie” Mauss, age 85, of New Albin, Iowa, died Thursday March 16, 2006, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 20 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin with Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in New Albin. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing was in charge of arrangements.
Connie was born in New Albin July, 10, 1920, to George and Florence (Hammell) Mauss. He married Beatrice Blake February 18, 1941, at Dorchester, Iowa. Last month they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Connie owned Mauss Produce of New Albin for over 35 years where he sold feed, Pioneer seed corn, and other farm supplies. He also farmed for over 25 years. Connie was a past member of the New Albin Volunteer Fire Department, of which he had served as chief, and was also a past member of the New Albin City Council. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Mauss, a resident of Thornton Manor in Lansing; nine children, Dick (Janet) Mauss of New Albin, Kenneth (Romelle) Mauss of La Crosse, Wis., Jerry (Janice) Mauss of New Albin, Karen (Donavon) Olson of Eitzen, Minn., Barb (Wayne) Sabatke of Birchwood, Wis., Alan Mauss of Hokah, Minn., George (Tammy) Mauss of Caledonia, Minn., Gary (Barbara) Mauss of Caledonia, and Steve (Kim) Mauss of Eitzen; 40 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Mauss of Combined Locks, Wis.; and three brothers, Mark Mauss of Waukon, Bernard (Lucille) Mauss of New Albin, and Fred (Laurayne) Mauss of New Albin.
Connie was preceded in death by a son, Donald Mauss, in 1985.
Casketbearers were Jeff Mauss, Mike Mauss, Damon Olson, Travis Haines, Joe Mauss, Peter Mauss, Justin Mauss, and Joshua Mauss.
