DIED

Mary S. (Amdor) Day was born on the 15th day of November 1843, and died of pneumonia at her home in Douglas township on the 20th day of February 1914, being 70 years, 3 month and 5 days of old. Mary S. Amdor was united in marriage to Samuel S. Day on the 15th day of November 1865, in Dearborn county, Indiana. Three children were born to them. They are Frank P. Day, residing at home; Fannie L. Day, wife of John M. Bixler; Edith M. Day, who died on the 11th of May, 1911. Samuel S. Day, her husband, died on the 9th of July 1883. Besides the children she leaves the following near relatives; Two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Day, Corning, and Mrs. Rhoda Vogel, of Carbon; three brothers, Edward Amdor, Dr. F. P. Amdor, of Carbon and James Amdor, of Welsburg [Wellsburg], Indiana; six grandchildren, Fern, Mary, Marjorie, Carl, Neal and Blanche Bixler. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Day lived two years in Fayette county, Illinois, then moved to the home farm in Douglas township, Adams county, Iowa, in the spring of 1874, Mrs. Joined the Baptist church in Carbon, Iowa, in 1875.

Mrs. Day was never very strong, and her ceaseless energy in caring for her husband during his long illness, also for her daughter who for so long a time was afflicted with tuberculosis, was a trying task for one so delicate. In fact, it was the admiration of all her friends and neighbors. It will be remembered that her husband, Samuel S. Day, was a veteran in an Indiana regiment during the civil war. Mrs. Day was one of Adams county’s finest women, and many friends will regret to learn of her sudden demise. She had been seriously ill but a few days.

The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, February 24th, at 1 o’clock p. m. conducted by Rev E. L. Roper and Rev. A. Y. Cupp, and interment was made in Quincy cemetery, beside her husband.
