John Bennett Roberts

John Bennett Roberts, son of William and Sarah Ellen Haney Roberts was born April 21, 1882 on a farm west of Carbon, Iowa, which was his lifetime home until he passed away in his sleep, January 16, 1956 at the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 25 days.
John was one of a family of five children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Fannie M. Day, and one brother, Frank W. Roberts.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Annie J. Figgins; one brother, James I. Roberts; one brother-in-law, Henry J. Figgins; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cyrena Roberts and Mrs. Luella Roberts; all of Corning. Also 13 nephews and nieces and 25 great nephews and nieces.
John devoted his life to farming and lived on the farm with is mother until her death in 1942.
Only advancing age and a mild heart ailment preceded his sudden passing.
He was a good brother, uncle, neighbor, and a loyal friend.
He served as an officer of the school district for years and also as a township trustee.
John enjoyed sports, He played baseball as a young man and was a staunch supporter of local teams and the games.
Services were held Sunday, January 22, 1958 at 2:30 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, Iowa with the Rev. Alfred Hunter in charge.
Internet was at Quincy Cemetery.
Music for the services was furnished by Esther Roland and John Riegel accompanied by Eva Elmore, pianist.
Pall bearers were John Hendrickson, Ned Hoyt, Charles Tindall, Don Routh, Jessie Figgins, and John Devereaux.
