Charlie Richie, eldest son of Conrad and Barbara Richie, was born November 19, 1893 at Hume, Illinois and passed away at his home, Tuesday, August 27, 1974 at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 8 days.
He grew to manhood around Villisca and Sciola, Iowa. In the year of 1917, he joined the armed services and served in Germany and France.
In 1921 he was united in marriage to Hazel Pond. To this union four children were born, Charlie Jr., Lucile Downey, Kathleen Murdock, an infant daughter preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Hazel, three children, Junior, Lucille, and Kathleen, and 9 grandchildren; also two brothers, Fred of Mesa, Arizona and Raymond of Coring; two sisters, Anna Groff and Nellie Harrison, both of Corning, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and one brother.
Charlie loved his farming. He farmed for 47 years before retiring and moving to Corning. He has been in poor health for quite sometime.
Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning. August 30, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. James King. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery at Quincy. Graveside rites were conducted by Oureq Post #117.
Dorothy Cook and Carrie Jo Miller provided music. Pall bearers were Oakley Boswell, Floyd Ritnour, Elmer Olive, Carl Moore, Grover Dodge, ad Kenneth Hanna.
