COWAN- January 21, 1894, at his home, in this city, of Bright's disease, John U. Cowan, aged 44 year, 4 months and 6 days.
The obsequies were held at the residence Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias, conducted by Dr. T.D. Ewing, and interment was made in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
The deceased was born in LeRoy, N.Y. in 1850 and came to Iowa and settled at Fairfield in 1881. He was married at Fairfield in 1882 and two daughters, Miss Emma, of this city, and Mrs. J.H. Abbe of Nebraska, blessed this union. He removed to this city with his family in 1892, where he remained until death
ended his earthly usefulness.
He was a member of the Episcopal church and lived an exemplary life, which won him the confidence and sincere esteem of his numerous acquaintances. He was an
honored member of the K.P. Lodge and his noble life and pleasing manners endeared him to the members of this fraternity. His was an unobtrusive disposition of the kind that makes a model citizen, a respected neighbor, a devoted husband and an affectionate father.
He leaves a loving wife and two appreciative daughters to mourn his demise. They are the recipients of the deep sympathy of a large circle of friends.
