Friends of this community several weeks ago received word of the death of Mrs. William H. Strait who passed away at Alvin, Texas, July 27, 1941 in Alvin, Brazoria, Texas, Precinct #3 of heart disease, congestive heart failure. A complete obituary account was received last week taken from an Alvin, Texas paper. Mrs. Strait moved from this community in 1894, but has relatives and friends in this county. Mrs. Strait is an aunt of Mrs. Chester Gourley and a distant relative of W. B. Barker. Mr. and Mrs. Barker visited in the Strait home during their recent trip through Texas. The obituary account as it appears in the Alvin paper was as follows.
Funeral services for Mrs. Isabelle M. Strait, 90, wife of W. H. Strait and for 47 years a resident of Alvin were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian Church, Rev. A. E. Nurns officiating. Interment in the South Park Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
A granddaughter, Christine Strait, sang a solo at the funeral rites. She was accompanied at the piano by the deceased foster son, Jim Littleton.
Mrs. Strait, who had been in poor health several years and critically ill since October, died at her home in Alvin Heights at 5:18 Sunday afternoon. Coming to Alvin in 1894 from Corning, Iowa, she and her husband settled in Alvin Heights near the present Strait home, where Mr. Strait has been a prominent farmer. They were leaders in the community.
Mrs. Strait was born in Springfield, Illinois, May 1, 1861 and moved to Iowa in 1868. She was married to Mr. Strait January 1, 1881.
Survivors are her husband, W. H. Strait of Alvin; two sons, Charles Lincoln Strait of Alvin, Clyde James Strait of South Huston; two daughters, Mrs. E. C. (Florence Elizabeth) Kimmons and Mrs. J. A. (Lula Ethel) Casey of Alvin; a foster son, John Littleton, Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Myers of Dexter, Iowa and Mrs. Fannie Barker of Canada; three brothers, Charlie King of Missouri, Gus King of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Howard King of Alvin; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a niece Miss Myrtle King of Alvin and numerous other nieces and nephews over the United States.
Pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Harold Casey of Alvin, E. O. Kimmons J. Shain Kimmons, James A. Strait, Clarence Strait, and Leonard Strait, all of Houston.
