Donnie Gene Dhone was born at Carbon, Iowa, November 28, 1922 to Albert Lincoln Dhone and Jessie Florence Perks and passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, June 2, 1978, at the age of 55 years, 6 months, and 4 days.
He was united in marriage to Dolores Marie Haley at Villisca, Iowa, August 20, 1960. To this union two sons were born.
Other than one short stay in Oregon, where worked in the shipyards, Donnie lived in and around Carbon, all his life. Donnie or “Joe” as he was known to most of his friends and family, loved to hunt and fish and took pride in raising a beautiful garden and orchard which kept the family supplied with apple pie and many other good things. His favorite sport was baseball. He very much respected and loved nature along with is fellow man.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores of Carbon; sons Darwin and Duane, both oat home, his mother Jessie Dhone of Carbon; brother Hollis Dhone of Carbon and Stanley Dhone of Troutdale, Oregon; sisters, Vergie Routh of Boone, Iowa and Audrey Moore of Carbon, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Darl Dhone.
About eight months ago he was injured while working for Adams County and has been in failing health ever since.
Funeral services were held at the Larkin-Roland Funeral Home in Corning, June 5, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Lewis Hunter of Clarinda officiating. Interment was in the Quincy Cemetery.
Music was provided by Dorothy Cook organist and Pricilla Hogan, soloist. Casket bearers were Ralph Olson, Dick Scott, Carroll Mercer, Raymond Strait, Wayne Strait, and Jerr Carr. Honorary bearers were Jack Dick and Laverne Schaffer.
