Alva Theron McGrew, son of James and Margaret McGrew, was born near Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio, January 21, 1858 and departed this life September 23, 1929, at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 2 days.
Mr. McGrew came to Lincoln Township, Adams County, Iowa in the year of 1876, and this has been his home, with the exception of one year spent in Nebraska and four years in Taylor and Cass Counties. He was married to Susan L. Hollingsworth, December 12, 1885. To this union were born six children, all of whom survive him These are Mrs. Maude Kurtz of Prescott; James E. of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Emma Bylander of Des Moines; Mrs. Fay Anstey of Cumberland; Roy A. of Griswold; and Howard who lives at home. His wife also survives him together with a number of nephews and nieces. He is the last of a family of ten brothers and sisters.
He was converted in early life and united with the Methodist Church to which faith he has remained faithful through the years. He suffered on and patiently until God in his mercy took him home.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Lincoln Center Church conducted by Rev. Breeling. Interment was made in Lincoln Center Cemetery.
