Mrs. Richard Gourd died at her home four miles north of town, Sunday, April 4, 1909 and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. F. Gutelius, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home. Interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Sarah Catherine Cochrane was born in Pennsylvania, November 5, 1849. In the year of 1875, she came with her parents to Iowa, which has since been her home. She was married to Richard Gourd, April 13, 1880, and to this union eight children were born, four of whom died in infancy. The living are John, of Lincoln, Nebraska, George, Mary, and Jesse, who reside at home, all of whom were with her at the time of her death. Beside her husband and children, Mrs. Gourd leaves three brothers, who reside in Kansas and a host of friends mourn her loss.
