Charles Mitchell Johnson died at his home in this city on Friday, June 30, 1905, aged 61 years, and 10 months. The funeral services were conducted from the residence on Sunday at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. R. C. Rowley officiating and interment made in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born in Chambersburg, Pike County, Illinois, September 3, 1843. On May 5, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Phillips and to this union were born five children, one of whom died in infancy. The remaining four, together with the wife are left to mourn his departure.
Mr. Johnson enlisted in the 7th Missouri cavalry, October 7, 1861, and on the 19th of the following August was wounded in the battle of Lone Jack Missouri, receiving his discharge, October 23, 1863. Mr. Johnson and his wife united with the Presbyterian Church in Nodaway in 1892, and remained a consistent member until called to answer the call in the grand assembly above. During his protracted illness, he frequently expressed a desire to attend church and enjoy the society of those with whom he loved to worship.
