Samuel Neill passed from this life at his home in Red Oak, Sunday morning at 4:45 o'clock from a complication of troubles following an attack of la grippe. Wednesday of last week a book clot on the brain was followed by a stroke of paralysis and congestion of the lungs and he succumbed in the diseases as mentioned, after 3 weeks illness. Funeral services were held at the home in Red Oak at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F. N. Willis of the Methodist Church, assisted by the pastor of the Baptist Church of Red Oak. Interment was made in Red Oak Cemetery.
Samuel Neill was born in Burlington, Iowa on August 31, 1846. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Neill to Adams County and located near Quincy, where for some time his father was in the mercantile business. Mr. Neill was married May 1, 1871 in Nodaway, Iowa to Miss Mary Patterson, who was formerly from Wisconsin. After their wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Neill made their home on a farm north of Nodaway, in the vicinity of Quincy, for 23 years, then the family moved to a mile and a half north of Villisca, where they remained for 10 years, and then Mr. and Mrs. Neill decided to retire from farming and located in Red Oak, which has since been the family home. Besides his wife, Mr. Neill leaves five children, Mrs. F. M. Linn of Corning, Ernest Neill of Nodaway, Mrs. A. V. Overland of Spokane, Washington, Mrs. J. M. of Whitebird, Idaho, and Miss Daisy Neill at home, all of whom were present during his last illness; also a sister, Mrs. Ida Leach of Omaha and a brother J. W. Neill. Mr. Neill was known to many readers and had a large circle of friends in this locality, who join extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Mrs. Leach, of Omaha, and a brother-in-law, James of Minnesota, came to Red Oak to attend the funeral.
