The community was saddened by the untimely death of Mary Peterson Smith which occurred at the Community Hospital February 4, 1929 following an operation. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 6, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Etna Church conducted by Rev. Bressler. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Mary Peterson Smith, daughter of Albert Clyde and Iva Wood Peterson was born April 14, 1906 at the family home near Mt. Etna. Here she grew to womanhood and was graduated from the Corning High School in the class of 1928. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of Mt. Etna when about eleven years old. She has been an active worker in the Aid Society, the Epworth League, and the Sunday School. Her faithful and untiring efforts as a Sunday School teacher will be long remembered by all who took an interest in the Mt. Etna Church.
She was a loving wife and a faithful daughter and a loyal friend and neighbor. She bravely bore the responsibility of caring for the home when left that task by the death of her grandmother, who was known as Aunt Sade Peterson. He mother preceded her in death April 22, 1910.
November 12, 1928, Mary Elouise Peterson was married to Lyle G. Smith. She was at the time of her death, 22 years, 9 months, and 21 days old. She is survived by her husband, Lyle C. Smith, her father, Albert Clyde Peterson, one sister, Elizabeth, three brothers, John at home, and Carl and William of Corning, her grandfather, William Peterson, also many relatives and friends.
