Elizabeth (Betty) Peterson
Elizabeth (Betty) Peterson, 79, was born April 22, 1910 in a sod house near Opal, South Dakota, and died September 15, 1989 in Trinity Regional Hospital at Fort Dodge. She was the daughter of Iva Wood and Albert Clyde Peterson.
When she was an infant the family moved to Mount Etna. She graduated from Corning High School in 1926 after which she taught in rural schools in the Corning area and later in Nodaway.
During WWII she worked in defense plants in San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon. After the war, she returned to Iowa where she graduated from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and attended classed at Drake University.
In 1950 she moved to Fort Dodge where she taught fourth grade in the Fort Dodge Schools until her retirement in 1974. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Democratic Women's Club, Izaak Walton League, Retired Teacher's Organization, and the First United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Adams County Delta Kappa Gamma Organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother, goes Nicoll Peterson, a twin brother, John, brothers Carl and Bill, and sister Mary. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lola Peterson of Villisca, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 23, at the Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the First United Methodist Church memorial fund or the Izaak Walton League of Fort Dodge.
