Elsie Lillian Ahnen, daughter of James Richard Bennett and Lillian Jones, was born June 2, 1896 in Adams County, Iowa and passed away June 26, 1986 at St. Mary's Hospital in Galvaston, Texas, at the age of 90 years.
She married Verne E. Keesler April 30, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1930. December 24 1936 she married Henry Ahnen. He died in 1950.
She lived in Creston from 1945 to 1981 when she moved to Galveston, Texas. She taught school in Greenfield, Earlham, and Marcus. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, White Shrine, and Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a son, Elmer Keesler of League City, Texas, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother Alden Bennett of Des Moines, four sisters, Edna Creswell of Dexer, and Edith Huffman, Bertha McKinsie, and June Weaver of Creston.
Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Creston, June 30 at 10 a.m., with Rev. M. Wayne Clark officiating. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery south of Mt. Etna.
Music was provided by organist, Barbara Kuyper and soloist Dennis Kuyper. Pall bears were Louis Alden and Larry Bennett, Kent Creswell, Wally Miller, and L. Dale Huber.
A memorial has been established to Children with Learning Disablilities.
