Florence M. Redfern Carmichael

Florence M. Carmichael, daughter of Solomon and Juilette Redfern was born in Red Oak, Iowa on November 25, 1872 and passed away November 8, 1951 at her farm home nine miles north of Villisca at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 8 days. As a young woman she united with the Methodist Church. She received her early education in Red Oak Schools and completed a two year course at the Shenandoah Normal College in 1896.
After completing her college work, she was employed in Malvern, Iowa for six years, where she took an active part in the church and choir.
On February 27, 1901 she was united in marriage to Samuel W. Carmichael, who preceded her in death August 6, 1934. The made their home on a farm south of Corning until March 1933, when they moved to their present home.
She leaves to mourn four sons, Ivan E. of Villisca, Samuel Wallace of Des Moines, Clark W. of Corning, and Dwight I. of Villisca, with whom she made her home for fifteen years. One son, Eldon Eyer passed away November 20, 1910.
Two brothers, H. G. Redfern of California, and P. C. Redfern of Lincoln, Nebraska and one sister, Mrs. Lina Cotter of Tabor, Iowa, six grandsons and one granddaughter are left to mourn her passing away.
Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Her outlook on life was cheerful and constructive and she enjoyed the present and always looked forward to other happy years.
Her many friends cherish the memory of a grand person, a loving mother, and a home builder whose kindness will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 11th at the Villisca Methodist Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Frank Jacobs in charge, assisted by Rev. L. H. Athey.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Icle Fisher, accompanied by Mrs. Wm. A. Anderson.
Pall bearers were George Carmichael, Russell Carmichael, Henry Carmichael, Albert Carmichael, Cecil Peterson, and Dr. W. D. Cotter.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Raymond Crouse, Mrs. Dot Kehr, and Mrs. Arthur Windom.
Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, south of Corning.
