Briley, Donald -
Rev. Donald Briley, Creston, IA, passed away at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center, Creston, Saturday,
May 8, 2004.
He was born April 23, 1925, Randolph, IA, in Fremont County, to William Franklin and Ellen Josephine (Ames)
Briley. On December 22, 1946 he married Frances Anna Moffitt in Siam, IA. She preceded him in death in
December 11, 2003.
To this union there were two sons and one daughter born. They are daughter, Twyla Donese Jagger, Tarkio,
MO.; and sons William Byron (wife Janet) Briley, Indianapolis, IN., Gary Duane (wife Monica) Briley, Creston,
IA. He is also survived by a sister, Ada Margaret Cloyed, Nebraska City, NE.; sisters-in-law, Beulah Briley,
Glenwood, IA., Jane Briley, Carrollton, TX.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Don studied for the ministry and served several Churches in this area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 2003 and six brothers: Carl, Clifton, Harold, Ralph, Oliver, and
Gene Briley; and two sisters: Delores Case and Elaine DuBois.
He farmed in Fremont County until the family moved to Page County. Don worked for Henry Field Nursery, and for
Clock Paint, Shenandoah. He was ordained in Prescott on April 25, 1965 at the Prescott Christian Church. He received
a certificate honoring him with the distinction of Minister, Emeritus from the Prescott United Church and retired in
Bethany, MO in 1987.
Don was a member of the First Christian Church, Creston, and a former member of the Prescott Masonic
Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.
He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1942 and attended Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO. and received his
Bachelor's degree in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Divinity from Drake University in 1965.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am. Thursday, May 13 at the First Christian Church, Creston. Dr. Ray
Miles of the First Christian Church and the Rev. Dr. Jeanne Groom will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen
Cemetery, Prescott. the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 at the Funeral home.
No public viewing is scheduled. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Creston and/or the Prescott
United Church Disciples of Christ, Prescott, IA.
