Funeral services for Howard Morris, age 85, of Lenox, who died Saturday, October 5, 2002 were held Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Time Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the
Stringtown Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Hospice Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Howard Philip Morris was born October 14, 1916 on a farm near Lenox, Iowa. He passed away October 5, 2002 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Iowa.
Howard was born to Mary Catherine (Beck) and Charles Herbert Morris. He was a graduate of Lenox High School and Platte Garde Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Howard was a member of the Stringtown Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He worked in California for the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation during the early World War II years, then served in the United Stars Air Force in Japan.
After the war he and his brother, Leonard, formed Morris Brothers Construction. Together they built dams and terraces and did all kinds of soil conservation work, including upland treatment for Lake Icaria. They were also John Deere Dealers in Corning.
In 1950 Howard was united in marriage to Vivian Switzer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had one child, a little girl, who died at infancy. Vivian passed away in 1989.
Those left to mourn are his brother, Leonard and wife Jean Morris of Corning, Iowa; sisters, Helen Swartz and husband Clark of Waterloo, Iowa; Virginia Walker of Greeley, Colorado; a good friend, Wilma Cohrt of Lenox, Iowa; his nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary; his wife Vivian and their infant daughter; and a brother-in-law,
Henry Walker.
