Leo Gard, 52, of Corning, Iowa died April 23, 2002 at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital, Corning. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Corning with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Corning. A Christian Wake was held at 7:00 p.m. Military Honors were by Iowa National Guard. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Leo was born on Sept. 26, 1949 in Conway to Glen Ruben Gard and Bessie Mare Sleeth. Leo graduated from Villisca High School in 1968. He married on Nov. 20, 1969 to Anne Marie Green. Leo worked for the sheriff's department in Corning from
1975. He then transferred to the street department where worked prior to his death. He worked as a mechanic for Miller Chevrolet from 1973-1975.
Leo lived in Corning for the last 20 years. He loved to cook and camp. He was a member of the VFW Post #3659 in Corning.
Leo served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and the Gulf War, retired from the Iowa National Guard in 1994.
Leo is survived by his wife Anne Marie Green, Corning; his children, Angela (Kurt) Peterson, Corning, Robert (Rachael) Gard, Corning, and Katherine Gard of West Des Moines; two grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Sharon) Gard, West Burlington, Ia; Paul (Cathy) Gard, Union, New Jersey; Sister-in-Law Edith Vickers, Bonaparte, Ia; Brother-in-Law Norman Pierson, Neola, Ia; Mother and Father-in-Law Levi and Elizabeth Green, Corning.
He was preceded in death by both parents; 2 brothers, Gene and Herb; 2 sisters, Nell Neely and Lucy Pierson; and grandparents.
