The unexpected death of James Oscar Narigon came as a distinct shock because of the tragic sadness of his passing, which occurred July 7, 1934. He had seemed as usual and had attended the Fourth of July celebration at Carl on the Wednesday previous to his death. He had taken sick during the day, but his illness was not considered serious. His death came at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Services were held at the Highland church where he had worshiped and worked so long was not large enough to accommodate the many friends who wished to pay tribute to this much loved citizen of the county. Rev. A. Arthur, pastor of the Advent Church at Villisca was in charge of the services and he was assisted by Rev. Jarboe of Grant. Interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Jacob Oscar Narigon, son of Joseph and Adelaide Humphrey Narigon, was born April 6, 1874 on the Narigon homestead in Douglas Township, Adams County. He died at his home near Nodaway, July 7, 1934, aged 60 years, 3 months, and 1 day. He was married Ellie May Bixler on August 6, 1902 in Adams County, Iowa, who preceded him in death in September 1914. To this union were born three children, Virgil, Ethel, and John, all of whom are left to mourn his loss. He is also survived by his two brothers, John and William, and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Toohey, and Mrs. Susan Crawford, who resides in Pueblo, Colorado, and two grandchildren, Effie Lee and Joe Narigon.
Mr. Narigon lived his entire life in the same neighborhood and took an active interest in all public affairs.. When a young man, he joined the Highland Church and remained a faithful active member throughout his entire life. He will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.
Mr. Narigon has been a man of outstanding worth in the community where he was born and spent his entire life. He was always fair and considerate on any stand he took and always had the best interests of the community at heart. The fact that he was elected at two different times to serve as a member of the Board of Supervisors indicates the faith and confidence of the community in the man who was thus twice honored. His first term covered the years of 1921-22-23, and the second term 1927-28-29. Many friends and neighbors join with the family in sorrow because of the death of this man who had contributed much to the religious, civic, and social life of Adams County.
