"Death loves a shining mark." Never was this proverb more fully proved that in the dark angel's visit to the one of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Huntington. He touched with his icy fingers their one treasure, Clara Huntington, and her laughing eyes closed, her active feet were stilled, her little hands lay quiet, and her prattling tongue is silent. The house seems empty. A loneliness that none but the parents can know pervades the home.
Clara Huntington fell asleep August 31, 1899, aged eight months. She had a short life, but was much loved, many hearts are saddened today. We are left, she is safe; no storms, troubles, or heart aches for her. Her life was finished, her work done. May we sleep like Clara and awake with her to gee "The glory of our God and His Christ."
For we feel that
"The sea has its dimples, so had her cheek,
And the coral is the hue of her lips as they speak.
The sun had its sunshine, so had her hair,
The moon has its soft beams, her smile was more fair.
The stars have their glory, as mighty they throng,
The earth has its treasures, her heart has it's song.
Ah, would I could fathom the song she will sing,
And sweep as her spirit on infinite wings."
