At the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. T. Duer, near Carbon, Mr. Gilbert Hicks died last Saturday evening at the age of eighty-six years. The deceased has been ailing all winter. Death came to him finally while resting from a walk. He fell asleep and the end came peacefully and quietly without suffering. Grandfather Hicks came to Adams County from Philadelphia in 1872, living first on a farm near Corning, and later in Corning. He was married in Philadelphia to Miss Amanda Baily in 1846, who died in November 1891. The sons and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hicks are Albert, who died in Philadelphia in 1897; Mrs. Clara Kuhey of Corning, Frank and Gilbert of Cromwell; Mrs Kate Clary of Omaha; and Mrs. W. T. Duer of Carbon. W. S. Logan of Corning is a grandson of the deceased. The funeral services were conducted from the house Monday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. A. Y. Cupp and interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery. A good man, a helpful neighbor, and a kind father has gone from among us. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
