Wilbert Theodore Hewitt, son of James Wilbert and Hattie Elizabeth Betts Hewitt, was born in West Hartford, Missouri on October 28, 1869 and passed away July 28, 1950 aged 80 years and 9 months.
When two and one half years old, he moved with his parents to the farm southeast of Nodaway, Iowa, where he spent his childhood and young manhood. He attended the country school, Villisca High School, and graduated from the Oren City Business College in Quincy, Illinois.
After this he farmed for a time near Nodaway, then followed the printer's trade which he learned at the Villisca Letter. He was employed in Omaha, until stricken with typhoid fever, after which he returned to Iowa. He was united with the Methodist Church in early manhood and remained an earnest student of the Bible throughout his life.
On February 14, 1899, he was united in marriage with Maude Taunton of Stratton, Nebraska. To this union one daughter was born, Gertrude, who passed away in infancy. In 1900 they moved to Stratton, Nebraska where Mrs. Hewitt passed away shortly afterwards.
He worked several months in Stratton, after which he started a cattle ranch on the location of the home where he passed away in Rawlings County, Kansas.
On April 19, 1911, he was united in marriage with Lottie Ann Smith of MacDonald, Kansas. To this union was born one daughter, Eunicy Martha, who passed away at the age of three days. Until he passed away, they lived on the farm, taking their pleasure in its development and that of the community and surrounding country. He possessed indefatigable energy and a strong mind and was well read and entertaining conversationalist and fought the battle of life with all his energy to the very last. He was known as a successful farmer and stockman of this country.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five brothers, James P. Hewitt, of Lenox, Elver A. Hewitt of Salt Lake City, Utah, Elmer S. Hewitt of Wilmette, Illinois, Lee L. Hewitt, of Regina Sask., Canada, and Arthur S. Hewitt of Seattle, Washington. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
