Mrs. Effie Irene Huntington, wife of Albert Huntington died at their home eight miles south of Corning on Monday night, November 6th. The announcement of the sad news cast a gloom over the entire community. During the day, Monday, Mrs. Huntington was about her household duties as usual, in hopeful spirit and light hearted. When night came a baby boy was born, which did not live to gladden the home; and within an hour the mother's life yielded to the grasp of the grim monster of death. A sadder case is seldom witnessed and no wonder the whole community was moved to sorrow. The lifeless forms of a mother and child like in one casket, the babe resting in the arms of the mother who gave her life for it.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairview Christian Church, conducted by the pastor, J. W. Ackley, assisted by Rev. E. S. Manoher. Burial was made in the Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Effie Irene Huntington, was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mr. Robert Bruce (Sarah Ellen Monahan) West. She was born December 5, 1873 in Taylor County, Iowa. Her age at the time of her death was 31 years, 11 months, and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Mr. Albert Huntington, March 10, 1897. To them were born 5 children; Grace, Ralph, Mary, Harold, and the infant child whose body was buried with the mother. Harold was taken from the parents' bosom when but a little blossom. Mrs. Huntington was converted to Christ 10 years ago and became a member of the Fairview Church and has since lived a careful, consistent, Christian life. She leaves a sad hearted husband, 4 little children, father, mother, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, and a large number of relatives and near friends, who in fond remembrances will speak well of her. She was affectionate wife, a loving mother, a kind friend, and a good neighbor. None knew her but to love her. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in this sad hour. A large concourse of people accompanied the bodies to the cemetery.
