Ralph Lee Preston, son of L. S. and Emily Scott Preston, was born January 30, 1876 near Carl, Iowa. He spent his entire life in Adams County. He passed away Saturday, November 24, 1962, at Rosary Hospital, Corning, Iowa at the age of 86 years, nine months,, and 24 days.
He was married January 10, 1900 to Harriet Jane Wilson. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive him. Mrs. Elmmer Olive (Alice) of Corning, Lowell and Mrs. Joye Heatherington (Esther) of Prescott, Wayne of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. H. K. Lindhammer (Ruth) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Allyn of Silver Springs, Mary Land.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet; three sons; three daughters, 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. E. J. Mitchell of Scottsbluff, Nebraska He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita and two grandchildren.
He was a loving father and grandfather, a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 27, at 1:30 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home with Rev. J. Dan Adams officiating. Music was by Jim Abbot of Creston and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pall bearers were Clarence Russell, Clarence King, Ralph Van Pelt, Carl Cooper, Merril James, and Bob Bell. Flower bearers were Mrs. Clarence Russell and Mrs. Carl Cooper. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
