William Henry Huntington

Henry Huntington was born October 25, 1849 in Swinfleet, Yorkshirre, England. At the early age of two years, he came with his parents to the United States of America and for a time the family lived in Grant County, Wisconsin. Later they located in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, where Henry grew to manhood and was educated. He was married January 2, 1870 to Miss Mary Huntington and to them were born nine children, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral. In 1878, Mr. Huntington came to Iowa and for three years livid near Holt, in Taylor County, after which time he located of the farm in Jasper Township, Adams County, Iowa, which place has for the last twenty-five years been the family home. Here the children learned to labor and love; there they grew to maturity and around the old home will linger their thoughts with enduring and precious memories to the end of their days. The deceased leaves to honor and cherish his memory, a wife, four sons, five daughters, five grandchildren, two sisters, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbors. Mr. Huntington has been a robust man, an indefatigable worker, always industrious and economical. He possessed a charitable spirt, yet was quiet and unpretentious. He was true to his family and kind to his friends. For some five weeks he has been an invalid and no known efforts were spared in the attempt to bring him back to health, but in vain. He died Monday night, April 23rd, at St. Barnard Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, aged 56 years, 5 months, and 28 days. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 29th, at the family residene, conducted by Rev. J. W. Ackley. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in Prairie Rose Cemetery, attended by a great concourse of sorrowing and sympathizing friends and neighbors.
