Knodle, Mildred Lee Alpaugh -
Mildred Lee Alpaugh, eldest daughter of Charles and Catherine Alpaugh, was born near Fairview, Illinois June 2, 1895, and departed this life at Greater Community Hospital, Creston, Iowa, August 6, 1968 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 4 days, after 18 months of illness.
She moved with her parents to Corning, Iowa, at the age of 5 years where the family made their home until her marriage. On March 23, 1919 she was united
in marriage to Ralph Knodle at the Christian Church parsonage in Shenandoah, Iowa. To this union were born Marjorie Sweeney of near Prescott, Iowa, and Charles Dean of Des Moines, Iowa. Most of their married life was spent on a farm in the Stringtown community. In 1965 they moved to Creston, Iowa, where they have made their home until her death.
At an early age she united with the Methodist Church in Corning, later transferring her membership to the Stringtown Community Church where she remained a faithful and loyal member.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1909, and her father in 1946.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband Ralph, her daughter Marjorie, and son-in-law F. W. Sweeney of Prescott, Iowa, her son Charles Dean of Des Moines, Iowa, and six grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Mable Hanna of Corning, Iowa and Mrs. W. H. Pottinger of Creston, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Her happiest moments were when she was with her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, August 8th at the Stringtown Community Church. Rev. Paul Williams, the pastor officiated.
Music was by Mrs. Austin Brown and Mrs. Robert Dunn, who sang the "23rd Psalm" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".
Mrs. A. L. Nicholson and Mrs Harry Miller were in charge of flowers.
Casket bearers were Darrel Brown, Harry Miller, A. L. Nicholson, A. L. Pine, Earl Roberts, and Fred Stillinger. Burial was in the Stringtown cemetery.
