Perhaps northwest Taylor morning, and southwest Adams Counties were never more startled than when on last Thursday the sad message was whispered over our phones that Charles Franklin Jackson suddenly and apparently with scarcely a moments warning, had passed to the beyond. We had sometimes thought of others, possessing frailties so often incident of human life passing away, but who had ever thought that Mr. Jackson in the very vigor of his manhood, constitutionally strong, was so near the brink of the beyond. But sometimes, "God moves in a mysterious way." The silver cord of life is often easily broken. The heart strings are tender. Some cause unknown to us touched them and the heart ceased its throbbing and the soul broke its fetters, thus ending the early life of one of our respected fellow citizens, who was more widely known than any other farmer living in this community. The subject of this sketch was born in Stark County, Illinois in September 7, 1857. He came with his parents to Taylor County, Iowa, in 1882 where he has since resided. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Josephene Amanda Ross of Adams county. four children, Clarence, Verner, Benjamin, and Leila have gladdened their home. Clarence died in 1887. Mr. Jackson united with the Baptist Church while living in Illinois, but never identified himself with any church after coming to Iowa. He died at his home July 9, 1903, aged 45 years, 10 months, and 7 days. The funeral was conducted from his residence July 14. The services was conducted by Rev. W. C. McClelland. The floral offerings were both beautiful and copious. The sympathy for the bereft seemed unbounded. The body was borne to Prairie Rose Cemetery, its last resting place by the I.O.O.F. lodge of Maple Grove, assisted by the Villisca lodge of the same order. The ceremony at the grave was very simple and impressive breathing forth the spirit of faith in a living Christ, his power over death, and the immorality of the soul.
