Mrs. Hugh Ross died Wednesday of last week at her home near Nodaway from paralysis. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Nodaway, conducted by Rev. F. L. Roper; pastor of the. Corning Baptist Church Eliza Jane Elliott was born in Cork, Ireland, May 23, 1843, her age being 69 years, 1 month and 17 days. In departing this life our beloved sister leaves to mourn a beloved husband, Hugh Ross, to whom she was united in marriage February 23, in the year 1860, in Kincardine, Canada. This union extended to nearly fifty-two years. Two daughters, Edith C. Ross and Mrs. C. F. Jackson, and two sons, George and Madison Ross, survive their mother. Two sons have preceded their mother to that better land. They are James Elliott Ross, who died September 10, 1862, and Herbert Hugh Ross, who died December 23, 1898. In the year 1860 Mrs. Ross came to Illinois and moved to Iowa in 1869, in which state she has resided ever since. Mrs. Ross was first received into the Corning Baptist church February 8, 1874, coming by letter from the Fairview Baptist church in Taylor county, Iowa. April 3, 1880, she was granted a letter and organized a mission church in the community where, she resided. This mission church, was known as the Somerset Baptist church and existed several years when the Somerset Baptist church, disbanded our sister was again received into the Corning Baptist church, upon, church relation. Of her father's family two sisters and two brothers survive her. One brother, R. E. Elliott resides in England, and the other brother, George;
resides in Canada. One sister, Mrs. Catherine Ross, resides in North Dakota, and Mrs. Matilda Buss, resides here. She leaves nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. It can truly be said a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a loving sister and a most excellent neighbor has been called to her reward. As her trust was in God so today she stands before his throne.
