Maude E McPherren Brown was born December 30, 1877 and passed away August 30, 1933 at the age of 56 years and 8 months. She was born in Adams County on her Grandfather McPherren's farm about four miles north of Corning. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McPherren came to Iowa from Illinois. Mrs. Brown had spent most of her life in Adams and Taylor counties. She was married May 9, 1895 to Harper Brown at Brooks, Iowa and they went to housekeeping on the farm where Mr. Brown now lives. Seven daughters and one son were born to this union. The children are Mrs. Nettie Perdew of Gravity, Mrs. Vada Greeley of Burlington Junction, Missouri, Mrs. Edna Rhine, Mrs. Alta Archer, Mrs. Ruby Palmer, and Mrs. Lois Bailiff, all of Corning, and Ernest and Gertrude at home.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by ten grandchildren, five brothers, Guy McPherren of New Market, George and Ralph of Gravity, Luke of Glenwood, and Don of Corning; four sisters, Jessie Walters of Santa Ana, California, Aura McPherren of Graniteville, California, Lottie Cox of Corning, and Lena Firkins of Gravity and a host of relatives and friends. Her mother, Mrs. Maggie Shearer McPherren preceded her in death three years ago and her father, John McPherren, two years ago.
Mrs. Brown has been a patient sufferer for many years and has bravely found illness and suffering until her death called her at about ten o'clock Tuesday night while she was surrounded by all her family. She had many talents, but among the greatest was her needlework. She was a member of the Fairview Christian Church and enjoyed attending services whenever it was possible.
Funeral services were held at the Fairview Christian Church Saturday, September 2nd, 1933 conducted by Rev. O. C. Huff of Beaver, Iowa, a former pastor. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery, not far from the last resting place of her father and mother.
