Guy Francis McPherren, 78, died June 3, 1954 at the Armstrong Nursing Home at Bedford, Iowa. Funeral services were held June 8, at the Shum Funeral Home conducted by Rev. T. J. Overholt. Burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Guy Frances McPherren, eldest son of John and Margaret McPherren, was born January 14, 1876 in Adams County, and died at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 23 days.
In 1908 he was married to Rhoda Lee Cusick Van Horn. To them a daughter and four sons were born. The daughter died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death on September 14, 1963.
Those left to mourn are the four sons, Leon of Bedford, Paul of Weirton, West Virginia, John of Des Moines, Merle of California, one step-son, Raymond Van Horn of Vernice, California, also seven grandchildren.
Four sisters preceded him in death, Maude Brown, Jesse Walters, Lottie Cox, and Lena Firkins. The brothers and sisters surviving are Anne of Grass Valley, California, George of Sharpsburg, Ralph of Gravity, Luther of Glenwood, and Don of Cama, Washington.
The greater part of his life was spent in farming. The past ten years he lived in Bedford.
