Ellen Bixler Leatherman
The funeral of Mrs. Daniel Leatherman whose death was mentioned in last week's issue, was held last Friday at 10 o'clock in the morning, conducted by Rey. Fred Moore, pastor of the Brooks M. E. Church, and interment was made beside her husband in the Oakland cemetery, at Quincy. Miss Ellen Bixler was born In Ohio, December 1, 1853; and passed from this life at her home in Brooks, Iowa Tuesday, December 21, 1915, aged 62 years and 20 days. Her death was due to heart trouble. Miss Bixler was a daughter of Charles and Mary Ann Markley Bixler. She was married to Daniel Leatherman March 11, 1875, and to this union three children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Leatherman was a faithful member of the M. E. Church with which she united when a young girl. She is survived by her daughter, Miss Jessie Leatherman, the husband and father having preceded her in death, passing away the 2nd of November 1915. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Leatherman leaves one brother, Jackson Bixler of Douglas Township, and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Shipley, of Nodaway, Iowa, Mrs. Lizzie Roberts of Clay Center, Kansas, and Mrs. Lilly Kirk of Nodaway. Many friends also regret the passing of Mrs. Leatherman, who was a good woman, a kind friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed in her locality.
