Below we give a more extended obituary notice of Daniel Leatherman, concerning whose demise we spoke last week. Mr. Leatherman was one of the early settlers in this community, and was respected as one of its best citizens. He had a wide acquaintance, particularly in the vicinity of Brooks, where he lived for so many years.
Daniel Leatherman was born in Allen County, Ohio, September 7, 1849. He was the son of Daniel Leatherman and Rachel (Swaim) Leatherman. He came with his parents to Linn county, Iowa, when two years of age. He resided there until about 21 years of age, when he came to Adams county, Iowa, where he made his home ever since. He was married March 11, 1875, to Ellen Bixler. Three children were born to this union, only one of whom is living.
When a young man Mr. Leatherman united with the Christian church; later he united with the Methodist church, of which he remained a member until his death. He died at his home in Brooks, November 2, 1915, aged 66 years, 1 month, and 25 days. He leaves beside his
wife and daughter, Miss Jessie, twenty-eight nephews and nieces. These were the only near relatives remaining, his parents, his brother John Leatherman, his sisters Mrs. Susannah Walton and Mrs. Mary Largent and his half-brother George Winsor having preceded him in death.
The funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Brooks Friday, November 5th, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. T. Cupp, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Fred Moore and Rev Elliott Voorhees, of Luther, Iowa who has been a friend of the family for many years. Interment was made in the Oakland cemetery near Quincy.
