Charles Bixler
Chas. Bixler was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1826, and died at his home in Douglas township, Adams county, Iowa, September 14, 1901, aged 75 years, 3 months and 2 days. He was married to Mary Ann Markley November 9, 1848, in Tuscarawa county, Ohio, where he resided until the spring of 1854, when he came Appanoose county, Iowa and the following December removed to Adams county, Iowa, where he resided until his death. He was one of Adams county's first settlers and among her pioneers; he was a good citizen and neighbor. There were twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bixler, six preceded the father and mother in death, and five are living as follows: Mrs. D. Leatherman of Brooks, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts of Mt. Etna, Mrs. Margaret Shipley and Mrs. Lillie Kirk of Nodaway and Jackson of Douglas township, all of Adams county.. He also leaves twelve grand-children, and four brothers, John of Hoyt, William of Quincy, Jacob of Carl and Joseph of Villisca. His wife died November 17, 1896. Mr. Bixler united with the M. E. Church fifty years ago and adhered to its doctrines and usages. The funeral was largely attended, conducted from his late residence by Rev. A. Y. Cupp.
Interment was made in the Quincy Cemetery.
