William Bixler died in his home in Corning Sunday morning, March 22, 1914 at about 3 o'clock after an illness of about four years from paralysis. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, March 24, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. Y. Cupp and interment was made in Quincy Cemetery. Mr. Bixler was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, January 22, 1837, being aged 77 years, 2 months at the time of his death. He came to Adams County, Iowa in 1856. In 1861, Mr. Bixler enlisted in company H 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry and he served his country for four years. He was wounded in 1864. In 1866 he was married to Miss Lizzie J. Allen in Keokuk, Iowa and they located on a farm in Adams County, where they remained until about 10 years ago, when they retired from the active duties of life and located in Corning which has since been their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Bixler two sons were born, Frank A., residing in Corning and Charles, who died in infancy. Mr. Bixler was a gentleman of strong character and had many friends. During his long illness he was a very patient sufferer. For several months he was confined to his home and the past twelve weeks was bedfast. The services at the cemetery at the cemetery were in charge of the G.A.R. Post and the pall bearers were comrades of the deceased. Mr. Bixler was a member of the Masonic order. He is survived by his wife and one son, Frank; one brother Jacob Bixler of Carl vicinity and five grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends who deeply regret the loss of a kind neighbor and true friend. Relatives from Brooks, Carl, Omaha, and other places attended the funeral.
