Velma Grace Hill Bixler
Services for Velma Grace Bixler, 83, Carbon, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home. The Rev. Elmer West officiating. Mrs. Bixler died Sunday at Mercy Hospital In Corning. Burial will be In Oakland Cemetery in Qulncy.
Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church in Carbon.

Velma Bixler
Final rites for Velma Bixler, 83. of Carbon were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning. The Rev. Elmer West officiated with burial in the Oakland Cemetery in Quincy.
Casket bearers were Larry Larson, Glen Roberts, Wayne Goodvin, Larry Roberts, Kenneth Bixler, and Stanley Frederick. Honorary bearers were Carl Bixler, Max Goodvin, Edward Hoyt, and Virgil Narigon.
Velma Grace Bixler, the daughter of W. J. and Edith Houck Hill was born April 23 1905, at the Hill family farm north of Carbon. She died Oct. 30, 1988 at Mercy Hospital in Corning.
Her family lived in Montana for two years then returned to Adams County where Mrs. Bixler spent the remainder of her childhood. She attended schools in the Carbon vicinity and graduated from Corning High School with the class of 1923. She attended summer classes in Creston and spent three years as a teacher at Lincoln No. 9. Hazel Dell and the Houck school north of Carbon.
On Dec. 22, 1925, she married Glenn Raymond Bixler at the home of her parents north of Carbon. The couple farmed in the Carbon vicinity with the exception of one year in Villisca in the implement business.
Mrs. Bixler was a member of the Carbon United Methodist Church and the Adams County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one foster sister, Phila surface, and an adopted brother, "Little Bill" Hill.
She is survived by six nieces and two nephews. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church in Carbon.
