Sidney Allen Bixler, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Robert A. Bixler was born May 13, 1879 in Adams County, Iowa and died November 10, 1960 at his home in Clearfield, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 20 days.
He was united in marriage February 12, 1901 to Elsie Mae Mooney. To this union seven children were born. Elsie preceded him in death.
On December 8, 1940 he was united in marriage to Daisie House of Clearfield, Iowa.
At an early age Sidney followed his Christ in baptism and became a member of the Highland Advent Christian Church in Adams County. He later transferred his membership to the Advent Christian Church of Villisca, Iowa. He was a senior elder in that church at the time of his death. His entire life was devoted to the work of his Master.
Much of his life was spent farming southwest Iowa. In 1938 he took the position of Farm Manger of the American Advent Christian Home and Orphanage, Route 5, Live Oak, Florida. He continued there until 1948 and was greatly loved by both the aged folk and children residing there. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Sid."
Sidney was the eldest of a family of 11 children, one brother and three sisters preceding him in death.
Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn, 5 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs. Olive Tindall and Mrs. Florence Tiffin, both of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Ruth Keepers of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Pearl Smyth of Sandwich, Illinois, Miss Dorothy Myrle Bixler of Winfield, Kansas, Rev. R. A. Bixler of Mount Ayr, seven children, Glenn R., of Corning, Mrs. Violette Magoon of Seattle, Washington, S. Erle of Carbon, Iowa, Mrs. Beth Adams of Flint, Michigan, Harold of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Gene Greenman of Jacksonville, Florida, and Max B. of Howell, Michigan. Also 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of relatives and friends from coast to coast.
Services were held at the Christian Church in Clearfield, Iowa, on Saturday, November 12 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. H. T. Bodwell, pastor of the Villisca Advent Christian Church, assisted by Rev. Mendenhall, pastor of the Clearfield Christian Church. Music was by Mrs. Frances Gray and Mrs. Marie Crew. Pall bearers were E. L. Hoyt, Carl Bixler, Allen Kockinson, don Bennett, Lyle Nelson, and Dean Nelson. Interment in the Quincy Cemetery.
