VIOLETTE MAGOON
Violette Bixler Magoon. of Bellevue. Washington, died October 13, 1979. She was born April 26, 1903. on a farm in Adams County, Iowa, to Sidney Alan Bixler and Elsie Mooney Bixler. She attended the first eight grades in a one room country school and graduated from the Corning, Iowa High School.
She attended Aurora College, Aurora, Illinois, where she met her husband, C. Chatman Magoon. They were married September 5, 1925, in Villisca, Iowa, by Rev. Samuel H. Coleman, who had baptized her years before. She was employed as secretary for the Adams County Farm Bureau for two years between high school and college. After her marriage she and her husband lived in Des Moines, Iowa: Spokane, Washington; Kansas City, Missouri: and New Haven, Connecticut, before moving to Seattle in 1931. Their son, Carl, was born in New Haven. Shortly after going to Seattle, they built a home in West Seattle, where they lived for 39 years. During this time she was an active member of the Seattle Advent Christian Church, teaching Sunday School classes, and working in the women's groups. They sold their home and moved to Bellevue in 1972 at which time they transferred their church membership to the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.
Violette was a collector of early American glass and was a member of the National Early American Glass Club. She was also a charter member of the Seattle Antiquarian Society. Her interests also included searching family history. She was a member of the Seattle Genealogical Society, serving for several year as chairman of the Book Purchasing Committee.
In addition to her husband. C. Chatman Magoon, she is survived by a son. Dr. Carl Magoon, his wife. Mama, and four grandchildren: Karen Stuart, Cynthia and Carolyn, all of Bellevue: also by two sisters, Beth Adams and Gene Greenman, both of Florida; and by three brothers, Erie Bixler of Oregon: Harold Bixler of Florida: and Max Bixler of Michigan. An older brother, Glenn, preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, Sunday, October 21, at 3:00 p.m.
