Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Hyde was born in Harrison County, Ohio, March 5, 1841 and departed this life July 3, 1928 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Carothers in Nodaway, aged 87 years.
She was united in marriage to Thomas B. Hyde, December 7, 1865 and to this union were born six children. Addie Kennedy of Cushing, Nebraska, Dell of Pickering, Missouri, Katheryn of Omaha, Nebraska, Jennie Carothers of Nodaway, who survived her also one child, who died in infancy and Ottie who died at the age of 10 years. Besides her four children, she leaves one brother, George of Wheeling, West Virginia, also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.
Early in life she united with the Baptist Church. After coming to the vicinity of Nodaway her membership was transferred to the local Methodist Church to which she always remained a faithful member.
Funeral services were held at the Carothers home, Wednesday afternoon, July 4th conducted by Rev. L. B. Carpenter of Villisca assisted by Rev. W. R. Ourster of Nodaway. Interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. The singers were Mrs. B. G. Everett and Mrs. C. N. Kennedy. The pall bearers were E. E. Cramer, O. W. Starr, M. H. Wallace, Chris Kohli, W. E. Daughtery, and Clyde Vaughn. Those out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ceryl Hyde and baby, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hyde of Pickering, Missouri, and Mrs. Len Kennedy of Cushing Nebraska.
