Nodaway citizens were saddened Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. Fred Carothers, who had been ill for several months, quietly passed away at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, following an illness of several months. Mrs. Carothers, aged almost 73 years had lived in Nodaway most of her life. Besides her husband, she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Kernen of Glidden, who had stayed with her mother during her last illness. There are also several grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister, Miss Kittie Hyde, and a brother Deli Hyde. Funeral services were being held this Wednesday afternoon, January 22th at the Methodist Church. A complete obituary will appear later.

Jennie Beatrice Hyde, daughter of Thomas B. and Mary Elizabeth Hyde, was born in Union County, Ohio, January 24, 1876 and passed away at her home in Nodaway on January 22, 1951.
She came with her parents to Iowa when a small child and with the exception of one year in Kansas, she has always lived in Adams County.
Early in life she united with the Methodist Church and was always active in church work as long as her health permitted.
On February 5, 1899, she was united in marriage to Fred Carothers and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Charles Kernen of Glidden, Iowa and one son who passed away in infancy.
She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband and daughter, two grandchildren, Mrs. Wilma Trainer of Carroll, Iowa and Lysle Kernen of Glidden, Iowa, two great-grandchildren, Randolph Lee and Pamela Rae Kernen of Ralston, Iowa, one sister, Miss Kathryn Hyde of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, one brother, Deli Hyde of Pickering, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Nodaway with Rev. c. M. Roar officiating. The pall bearers were Bert Kernen, Ed McMorran, Wm. O'Riley, Ned Hoyt, Clyde Vaughn, and Chas. Wood. The music was by Mrs. J. R. Damukes, and Mrs. Harold Everett, with Mrs. Ruth Johnson at the piano. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Harold Shires and Mrs. Albert Orme. Interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery.
