Henry Walker Shuler, son of John A. and Carolyn Walker Shuler was born near Brooklyn, Illinois, November 3, 1867 and died at his home in Corning, Iowa March 9, 1949 at the age of 81 years 8 months, and 6 days.
He came with his parents to Iowa when six years of age and spent his first winter on the farm known and the Richey farm south of Brooks. The following spring they moved to the farm 1 1/2 miles north of Iveyville, which has always been the Shuler home and which is now occupied by Myron Shuler family.
Mr. Shuler attended the Taylor County Schools later attending High School.
He was united in marriage to Ida Myers September 16, 1891 in Corning and took her as a bride to his little farm north of Iveyville. In the spring of 1895 he with his wife and little son moved a mile north of their home to the Shuler homestead. here the children, Myron, Claudine, Lois, John, and Cathryn spent their childhood.
Mr. Shuler always love the farm, but after losing his health in 1916 was forced to retire from active work and on December 4, 1917 moved to Corning where he has since resided.
He was preceded in death by one son, John and one daughter, Mrs.. Cathryn Garland Hayes, also one brother, Perry Shuler and a sister, Mrs. Laura Spurling.
He is survived by his wife, his son, Myron, two daughters, Mrs. Claudine Leonard, and Mrs. Byran Holbrook; six grandsons, Olin and Billie Shuler, Delmar and Harold Leonard, Clifford and Claude Hayes; one sister, Mrs. Ella Turner of Corning. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, neighbors, and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 11, 1949 at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Corning conducted by Rev. R. T. Wane. Music was by Mrs. E. W. Compton, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Cook. Pall bearers were Bryan Holbrook, Olin Shuler, Harold Leonard, Francis Turner, Delmar Leonard, and Glenn Myers. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
