Royal "Roy" Anton Moore, son of Anton and Annie B. Moore, was born in Adams County, Iowa, May 17, 1874, on a farm five miles south of Corning. He passed away at the Rosary Hospital November 1, 1952, at 12 o'clock noon.
September 3,1903, he was united in marriage to Leah Henrietta Shoemaker, also of Corning, who preceded him in death September 10,1929. To them were born five children, all of whom survive. They are Grace Beloyed, Portalnd, Oregon; Maxine Cole, Montrease, Michigan, Raymond, Corning, Iowa; Ruth Tucker, Prescott, Iowa; and Harry E. of Los Angeles, California, all of whom were here at the time of the death and burial of their father.
Two brothers, Dr. John J. and Charles, and one sister, Kate Garwood, have preceded him in death. Surviving are three sisters, Mary Fuller and Christine Moore of Corning, and Edna Asquith of What Cheer, Iowa. Also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Throughout his entire life he was well known as "Dutch", as a farmer and carpenter in Adams County except a few years at Red Oak and Villisca.
Since 1929 he made his home in Brooks, Iowa, where he spent much of his time at his hobby of woodworking. As he became more confined with arthritis, he greatly enjoyed the thoughtfulness of his many friends and neighbors.
Though nearly helpless the past two years, he was content,being cared for at the Thomas Rest Home in Lenox, Iowa. On the Saturday preceding his death, Mr. Thomas accompanied him to the Dawson sale where he was happy to meet many old friends. The family and friends will miss his interest in life, his serenity, his sense of humor and his vivid memory.
Funeral services were held from the Boyd Roland Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, November 4th, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T.B. Turner, assisted by Rev. W.H. Sinning.
Music was rendered by John Riegel, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Cook. Pall bearers were C.E. Thomas, Jim Stalder, Maurice Reichardt, Harry Odell, Walter Nelson and Ivan Stllinger. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Relatives here from a distance to attend services were: Mrs. Edna Asquith and son, Robert, What Cheer, Iowa; a nephew and wife,Mr. andMrs. Harold Garwood and a cousin and her son, Mrs. Will Shamley and Lewis, all from Topeka, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Shoemaker, Winterset, Iowa.
