Owing to the absence of the family at his funeral in Taylor county, the death of Jackson Query, Tuesday, November 18, at 2:00 a.m., did not receive due attention. He was born in Rush County, Indiana in 1835 and also lived in Jasper County in that state. He removed to Adams county, Iowa, in 1854 and settled near Quincy. He was converted at a camp meeting held by the Rev. Samuel Farlow at Colvin's grove in 1856 and united with the M. E. Church of which he remained a member till his died. He was married in 1860 to Susan Harlow, who is now his widow, and in 1868, they moved to Taylor county near Conway. They had three children, Bertha Elizabeth Query, now at home with her mother, recently from Des Moines. Mrs. Rosabell Parks, and Mrs. Elnora Lambley, both living near Conway. While living in Taylor County, he was Sunday School Superintendent at the Wright and Hess School houses and he had been class leader at the Neil School house near Quincy. In February of 1895 the family removed to Corning, where they have since resided. Mr. Query was a man whose uprightness of character was known and highly respected by his neighbors. Almost the last piece of work he did was to dig with his spade the cellar-way for the now existing Methodist parsonage in order to help the work along. His interest in the church and its work was warm and helpful to the last. His end was sudden, Monday evening he was down town, but near noon suffered from severe pain in the heart. He ate dinner and some supper and retired to rest. About 2:00 a.m., he awoke and spoke to his wife who was sitting up to watch. In a few moments, without a word of warning, he was gone; his kind heart had failed forever. Hiss loss is most sincerely mourned by his neighbors and all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted at the home by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Shipman, Wednesday, November 12, at 10:30 a.m. and the casket was taken at noon to Conway and buried in his old neighborhood near that town.
