The following obituary notice from the Conway paper will be of interest of Adams County people. Mrs. Query was the eldest daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Harlow, pioneer resident of this county. We are told that Mr. Harlow was the first merchant in the town of Brooks, then known as Brookville and was a member of the first board of supervisors organized in Adams county.
The obituary follows:
That those who were once the middle aged people of our land, have become the aged and are fast giving their places to the younger people is in evidence so often. This week we are called upon to note the passing of one of our former citizens, Mrs. Susan Harlow Query, wife of Jackson J. Query, who formerly resided in this vicinity, but who of late years has resided in Des Moines with her daughter, Miss Bertha E. Query.
Mrs. Query will be remembered by many of our readers who formerly resided here. She with her husband, who died some years ago, resided near Conway, and at the home place reared a family of children to mature years, and all well known and highly respected citizens. Sine the death of her husband, she has resided with her daughter in Des Moines. During her long residence here, she was always held in the highest esteem by those who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and her death sent a pang of grief to many a home.
Susan Harlow was born in Owen County, Indiana, December 18, 1840, and died February 7, 1910, aged 69 years, 1 month, 19 days, after a lingering illness. She was married to Jackson J. Query of Adams County, Iowa, in 1860. To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Belle Parks, Mrs. Ella Lambley, and Miss Bertha Elizabeth, all of whom were with her at the time of her death, and during her last sickness. Mrs. Query was a faithful member of the Methodist Church, having united with that church at the age of 13. She has all through these years lived a consistent Christian.
