Ollie Gill Gibson, the daughter of Abel and Sarah Gill, was born July 17, 1876 in Taylor county, Iowa and passed away Sunday, January 9, 1966 at the Northgate Manors Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa.
Ollie, who came from a family of nine children, grew up and spent her entire life in and around Adams County.
She was united in marriage to Robert H. Gibson (better known as Bert) on April 3, 1901. Due to her husband's early death in 1914, it became Ollie's lot to be a father as well as a mother to her entire household, which she did with radiance and understanding.
Survivors include three children, Gladys Sarah McClelland of Norfolk, Nebraska, R. Donald of Long Beach, California, and Roberta of Pasadena, California; three sisters, May McLeon, Sarah Engstrom, and Violet Ryan; one brother-in-law, W. W. Gibson; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha at the age of three and likewise her husband.
Ollie was a life long member of the Methodist Church and encouraged her children to take an active part in Sunday School and Church. Likewise she was a 50 year member of Emblem Chapter 54 of the Order of the Eastern Star of Corning, Iowa.
among other virtues, Ollie was a person of very strong character who took pride and self respect in being able to take care of herself to the very end. She not only saw that her children were well provided for and had a Christian rearing, but likewise was determined that they receive an education to prepare them for their own future livelihood. One should say in the truest sense of the word she proved to be a "mother."
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 12, at 1:30 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa with Rev. Brown Carlock officiating. Music was by Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were Lee Watts, John Riegel, Forcat McGregor, Ivan Heaton, Otho Brown, and Harry Coulter.
Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
