Loyal W. Barker
Loyal W. Barker died at his home in Sturgis, S.D., May 25, 1986, following a long illness. He was 76 years old. He was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Corning to Beach and Mary Alice Jennings Barker.
He received his schooling in Iowa and moved to North Dakota at the age of 21. Soon after, he was converted and spent the next few years traveling and singing with an evangelist.
On July 12, 1936, he was married to Marian Agnes Butler at Faith, S.D. They lived in Ohio for a time and later moved to Iowa until 1947.
Survivors include his widow. Marian of Sturgis; one daughter. Phyllis Wright of Modesto. Calif.; three sons, Duane of Sturgis. Phillip of Pierre and Ronald of Cleveland, Tenn.; one brother, Homer of Sturgis; five sisters, Beulah Kolk of Denver, Colo., Doris Robertson of Canby, Ore.. Marjorie Freelove of Chula Vista, Caiif., Verla Weaver Denver and Vivian Stream of Motalla. Ore.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Otho, Harold and Marvin.
Funeral services were held May 31 at 2 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, S.D. Burial was at the Bear Butte Cemetery.
