FOUND DEAD IN HOME
Mrs. Mary Goldsmith Passed Away Last Night
This morning the body of Mrs. Mary Goldsmith, well known lady in Corning, was found in her bed at her home, by Mrs. Clarence Schafroth. The lady is believed to have died from the effects of heart trouble. She had suffered considerably on Monday, but was believed well enough to be left alone last evening. This morning her daughter, Mrs. Fred Gillet, called her on the telephone. Receiving no response, she requested Mrs. Schafroth, a near neighbor of the deceased lady, to see if her mother was all right. Mrs. Schafroth received no response to her knock on the door, and looking in at the window discovered Mrs. Goldsmith in the bed. She immediately phoned Mrs. Gillet that Mrs. Goldsmith did not answer, and Mr. and Mrs. Gillet hastened to the scene. It was found that Mrs. Goldsmith had evidently passed away without a struggle in the night. She was one of the splendid women of Corning, having lived in this community many years, beloved by all who know her. As yet no arrangements for the funeral have been made.
Mrs. E. Bieber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bieber, was born near Delaware, Ohio on June 14, 1853, being 73 years of age last June. At the age of ten years, she moved with her parents to Bushnell, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood and in 1873 was married to Edward P. Goldsmith in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Goldsmith came to Adams County in 1876, and with the exception of three years spent in Ridgeway, Missouri, the home of Mrs. Goldsmith has been in Adams county the past 51 years. Mr. Goldsmith preceded his wife in death 23 years ago in Ridgeway, Missouri. Shortly after the death of her husband, Mrs. Goldsmith returned to Adams County, making Corning her home for almost 22 years, 17 or 18 of which have been spent in her present home, in west Corning.
To Mr. and Mrs. Goldsmith six children were born, all of whom survive their parents. They are Alvin B. Goldsmith, residing west of Corning, Mrs. F. M. Brown of near Brooks, Mrs. Fred Gillet, Corning; Mrs. Harry Murdock, near Brooks, Mrs. E. A. Tucker, Loveland, Colorado; and John L. Goldsmith, Ridgeway, Missouri. Besides the children, Mrs. Goldsmith leaves 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who with numerous friends mourn the loss of a loving mother, friend, and neighbor. Mrs. Goldsmith was a highly respected resident of Corning. She was a member of the M. E. Church and a faithful attendant at Sunday School and Church services. She was also an active member of the W.R.C., the W.C.T.U., and the Happy Hour Club.
