Mabel Lucille Goldsmith, 80, was born March 9, 1916 to Richard and Bertha Purdum at Guthrie, Oklahoma. she died March 25, 1996 at Mercy Hospital in Corning.
She was raised and attended school in Taylor County.
She was married to Francis Goldsmith January 1, 1936 in Brooks, Iowa. They lived on farms in the area before moving to their farm south of Corning where they lived 30 years before retiring and moving to Lenox.
Mrs. Goldsmith was active in Adams County 4-H and County Extension Service. She had been an active member of the Mercer Center Methodist Church almost 50 years. She had a great interest in China painting and also sewing. She and her husband had taken family vacations out west, wintered in Texas and had been to Europe, Hawaii and the Bahamas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Francis Alvin, brother Raymond Aaron Purdum; brothers-in-law Harry (Pete) Leach and Carlton Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, son Raymond Dean (wife Margaret) Goldsmith, Windsor, Colorado; daughter Linda Elaine (husband Curtis) Jordening, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Clifford and wife Leone Purdum, Creston, Dale and wife Bert Purdum, Lenox; sisters, Gladys Leach, Lenox and Jean Lewis, Monmouth, Illinois; and sisters-in-law Deloris Purdum, Mary Goldsmith, and Estella Goldsmith.
Services were held March 27 at the Mercer Center Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Shreve officiating. Burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery in Adams County.
Pallbearers were Dennis Purdum, Danny Purdum, Mark Purdum, Steve Purdum, Curtis Purdum, Tracy Purdum, Jim Lewis, Randy Lewis, and Bryan Lewis.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Mercy Center Methodist Church.
Coen Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.
